For over four years I worked as the Resident Inspector and performed project management duties for the FEMA funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) residential elevation project. During the course of this project I was privileged to have worked with Bob Covey and his firm, C&S House Movers. C&S relocated to Beaufort County, NC following the bid award and proceeded to elevate approximately 200 homes in Belhaven alone. They were also an instrumental participant in other HMGP projects throughout Eastern North Carolina. I found Mr. Covey to be responsive to changes in schedule, working on weekends and during inclement weather. C&S has proven to be an innovative firm, as they continually upgrade their equipment and develop creative solutions to complete the projects at hand. The challenges presented by the homes in the elevation program were numerous, and C&S was successful in all their awarded projects, with little to no adverse effects to the properties. C&S was able to successfully elevate one house that was awarded to another contractor who was unable to complete the project. I feel confident in recommending Bob Covey and C&S House Movers.

There is one other thing I should mention about Bob Covey. He is soft spoken, patient, and very easy to work with. In the fall of 2001 I had the unfortunate task of taking over the construction supervision of a large apartment complex in Savannah, Georgia for Vercon Construction. The previous superintendent had mistakenly built four buildings eight inches too low, leaving the buildings within the floodplain. Each building contained 24 large units; eight apartments per floor, three floors per building. The buildings had been framed, shingled, wired and contained HVAC ductwork, plumbing rough-in and windows. It was awaiting inspection by the city before drywall was to be hung. For insurance reasons, leaving the buildings within the floodplain was not an option. The owner of the construction company, Bob Vergnolle, decided the only option was to raise the buildings. After interviewing six companies, C & S was chosen, mainly based on Bob Covey’s professional presentation to management. As the on-site superintendent, I worked closely with Bob Covey and his crew. Now in 2006, I have been a superintendent for 10 years and in that time I have never seen a contractor work as hard and diligently as the men with C & S. Not only were the buildings raised on schedule but it turned out that each building weighed 600 tons and yet there was not a single bit of damage, not even a broken window. We were very pleased our bid was accepted for the house sold at public auction October 22, 2005, and we were equally pleased with the contractor who. ultimately moved our new home a total of 30 miles to Washington, NC. The move day was both cold and rainy, but neither dampened the care with which our home was moved.
